Another beautiful day, and we went into town, which is very close to our RV park, to take the boat ride on the lake, which is beautiful. It is very large, formed by a depression from the last ice age, and in addition to the marina has houses tucked into protected areas where the water becomes amazingly calm, in contrast to the wind blown open areas. A movie was filmed here in the 40's, and the stars, including Walter Brennan, stayed here during filming.
After the boat ride we drove to Ponderosa State Park on the peninsula of the lake, for the scenic ride to the point, and a fantastic view from above. The park ranger had recommended we also see the marsh, which was a good tip! A beautiful, relaxing area that the birds were no doubt thrilled to call theirs, and, though we did not see them, two tiny fawn had been spotted. We did see a young buck on our way out.
At the look out point, we ran into a couple who live part time in Washington state, and part time in New Zealand......and we thought OUR homes were far apart! They travel in a travel trailer in the US, sometimes spending as much as 4-6 months on the road. She is a native of New Zealand, and their home there was damaged by the earthquake that hit just before the Japanese tsunami, but is still livable. In chatting, we learned they are staying in the same RV park that we are! Loved her accent, tiny little thing that she was under her straw hat, and we enjoyed the visit, and comparing notes about places we had seen......or are yet to be!
