We started our Saturday early going to Historic Bonaventure Cemetary, one of the most photographed in the country, and best known for its role in "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil." Note to son Chris....there are lots of angels! (He searches for them to photograph!) So peaceful, with giant Live Oaks draped in spanish moss, and the biggest Magnolia trees we have ever seen, with blossoms the size of dinner plates, filling the air around them with their sweet fragrance! Lots of ornate and unusual headstones, but we searched for the gravesite of Johnny Mercer, and that of author Conrad Aiken. Aiken was a nobel prize winning author, and appointed poet laureate of Georgia by then governor Jimmy Carter , but his grave site is visited because it figured prominently in "the book", as it is called here. After the book and movie, one of the monuments, the Bird Seed Girl, featured on the movie cover, had to be removed to a museum because so many people were trying to take a chip out of it. Since it is iron, there was not really much damage done, but really.....

I love the angels too; and loved the 'book'. Joe and I always stopped in Savannah enroute home from FL. So glad you shared your pics too.
