Much like cruising, it has been two days "at sea."
We left the lovely salt marshes of Georgia and the "low country", and drove through flower lined highways of South Carolina. Such a lovely sight to come upon wide swaths of cheerful yellow flowers or fields of pink and purple wildflowers! I have not seen that in any state we have been in to date, and it is such a pleasant surprise to be driving along, when pop! They appear! Eliciting little, wow, look at those!
At least from the drivers seat where I sit! My co pilot utters, uh huh. Not nearly as impressed, but still appreciative. The terrain has become more hilly, with tree lined banks near waterways. That diesel engine does not even notice! Can't wait to see how she handles the mountains.
Aborting plans to visit my great niece Jennifer in PA due to lack of nearby camping facilities on this side of her (hoping to catch her after Boston), we made an overnight stop, and realized we had been at this campground last year on our way north. It is very pleasant, with a large lake, and if you were staying you would no doubt enjoy using the batting cage, swimming pool, and other things. This is where the ducks greeted us last year, and they are here with their little ones this year. I went out for a walk this morning, and discovered a rabbit munching happily in front of the coach!
We waved to Baltimore, where I thought we might stop, and Washington DC, made it through the traffic of both without the rush hour, but still plenty of cars and bumps! (The new coach handles them well, and things were still in their places when we stopped.) It has killed me to pass all those big brown signs announcing historic sites, plantations, and Civil War Battlegrounds. And I have no doubt I have also missed some amazing roadside attraction! But I am making a list for the next time, and we are heading on to Boston.
Joe said you can thank Lady Bird Johnson for initiating the program of putting wild flowers in the national highway medians.
ReplyDeleteReally! I did not know that!! They must be in Texas, too, I would imagine, but we have not been there yet. Thank you, Lady Bird! And thanks to Joe for knowing that!
