When I saw the Boyer's factory as we were going to the train museum, I wondered if they had a factory tour. Well.....of sorts, it turns out. They were featured on the foodnetwork show Unwrapped, and they show that film in the outlet store. We just had to take advantage of some of the outlet candy! And after sampling one of the mallo cups ( no, I didn't have them with coffee this morning, but discovered the bag while doing so!), I wish I had bought a BIG box of them!! I had not had one in years, and they are really good!!
The Boyer brothers started a candy business in their mothers' kitchen to supplement the family income during Depression years, with one brother making candy, mom and sister wrappping, and other brother going door to door. A great success, they soon wanted to make other kinds, but the marshmallow idea was not working until mom suggested a cupcake paper, and the first cup candy was invented! They now produce 2 million mallo cups a day, in addition to assorted other candies, which as you can see we had to sample!
Ew Mallo Cups. A sister of mine likes Mallo Cups?? LOL. Sounds like a fun stop anyway. :)
ReplyDeleteFunny....I don't remember eating them as a kid! But I did find them pretty good now! :-)
